Real World Math: Unexpected Events
Help students see the relevance of math skills. Each player
begins with a checking account balance of $100. In turn,
each player sees how many spaces to move and picks up an
“unexpected event” card. According to the card’s instructions,
the player either adds or subtracts an amount from his or
her account (e.g. receiving a birthday gift or taking the cat
to the vet). The first player to reach the end receives a bonus
amount. Players then add up how much money they have in
their accounts; the one with the most money wins. The game
board comes with 50 unexpected events cards, 20 sheets of
a check register (reproducible), and six game pieces. 2–6
players. Grades 2 and up.

I Have... Who Has...?
Math Games
The entire class can have fun while
practicing skills in math. Hand out all
37 cards. (Some players may get more
than one card.) The student whose
card reads, “I have the first card. Who
has…?” begins. The student whose card
has the answer to that question responds
and then asks a different question. This
continues until the person with the last
card gives the final answer and then reads,
“This is the end of the game!” Each box
provides 4 sets of cards for 4 different games. $16.99 Each
